What types of bundles can I create with Roadmap?

Overview

The Roadmap bundle builder supports two main bundle types. Choosing the right type depends on how much choice you want to give shoppers.

  • Fixed Bundles: a set group of items that are always sold together.
  • Variant Bundles: shoppers choose their preferred variant options (like size, colour, or scent) for each bundle slot.
Key point: Roadmap Bundles are a storefront selling experience. In Shopify orders, bundles resolve to the underlying SKUs so you can fulfil as normal.

Quick comparison

  • Best for control: Fixed Bundles
  • Best for personalisation: Variant Bundles
  • Best when products have many options: Variant Bundles
  • Fastest customer journey: Fixed Bundles

Fixed Bundles

Fixed Bundles consist of a pre-selected group of products that are always sold together. Customers purchase the bundle exactly as you’ve configured it—no swapping or customising.

Example

Bundle a shampoo and conditioner in the same scent as a set. The customer buys the set as-is.

Best for

  • Complementary product sets (for example, cleanser + moisturiser)
  • Controlled product combinations (you decide the exact pairing)
  • Streamlined shopping experiences (minimal decision-making)
Use Fixed Bundles when the value is in your recommended pairing (for example, a routine) and you want the fastest “add to cart” flow.

Variant Bundles

Variant Bundles give customers the freedom to choose their preferred options inside the bundle. You define the structure (the “slots”), but shoppers choose the variants they want (for example, size, colour, or scent) before adding the bundle to cart.

Example

Offer a mix’n’match t-shirt bundle where customers select their preferred size and colour for each t-shirt and receive 20% off.

Best for

  • Customisable shopping experiences
  • Products with multiple variants (size/colour/scent)
  • Letting customers tailor the bundle to their preferences
Even when customers choose variants, Roadmap keeps the purchased items grouped together in cart and checkout, and fulfilment is handled as the component SKUs.

What happens after purchase

No matter which bundle type you use, bundles are designed to keep operations simple:

  • Cart & checkout: bundle items appear grouped together so it’s clear what’s included.
  • Shopify order: your team fulfils the individual component products (each with its own SKU). Line items may include a reference like Part of: [Bundle name].

Track bundle performance

To measure how your bundles are performing, use Roadmap’s Analytics tab. Filter with the All campaigns dropdown and the date picker, then use Export Report to download reporting for the current view.

Choosing the right bundle type

  • You want a single, guided set (your recommended pairing).
  • You want the simplest decision for shoppers.
  • You need strict control over which items ship together.
  • Your products have meaningful variant choices (size, colour, scent).
  • You want a “build your own set” experience on the product page.
  • You want to increase conversion by letting shoppers personalise the bundle.
