# Set up a Shopify B2B market and catalog

Create a B2B market, attach company locations, configure tax display, and show the right pricing to the right companies.

Last verified against Shopify: April 21, 2026

Markets and catalogs decide which companies see which prices. If this setup is wrong, B2B customers can see retail pricing, see no pricing, or be unable to check out.

Roadmap relies on this setup to generate accurate quotes and draft orders.

### Before you start — prerequisites

Confirm these four items before you build the market:

* Your store is on **Shopify Plus** and **B2B** is enabled in **Settings → Customer accounts → B2B**.
* **New customer accounts** are turned on. Shopify B2B does not work with classic customer accounts.
* At least one **company** exists with at least one **company location**, and that location has a **shipping address**.
* You know whether the store is **B2B-only** or **blended**. A blended store needs a separate retail market alongside the B2B market for the same region.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you still need to build companies and locations first, use [Set up Shopify companies and company locations](/trade-and-b2b/getting-started/set-up-shopify-companies-and-company-locations.md).
{% endhint %}

### Step 1: Create the B2B market

#### Create the market for the companies that should share B2B pricing

1. In Shopify, go to **Settings → Markets**.
2. Click **Create market**.
3. Enter a clear name such as **B2B Australia**.
4. Save the market.

{% hint style="info" %}
Use a name that clearly separates the B2B market from the retail market. `B2B Australia` is easier to manage than `Australia`.
{% endhint %}

### Step 2: Add company locations to the market

#### Connect the companies that should see this market's pricing

This is the link between a company and the pricing it will see.

1. Open the market you just created.
2. Find **Market conditions**.
3. Select the **company locations** that should belong to this market.
4. Click **Done** or **Save**.

Only company locations attached to this market can inherit the catalog tied to it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The company location needs a shipping address. This is the most common reason catalog pricing does not appear later.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://393112916-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FJ8asLD4FVCFagK40xEr4%2Fuploads%2FpUXULkzOc3cljZbo5f4G%2FScreenshot%202026-04-21%20at%205.26.32%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=5b13fe1b-f552-4577-970d-c0ecb860443d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Step 3: Configure tax display

#### Choose how prices and tax appear in this market

Shopify gives you three tax display options for a market:

* **Dynamic** — Shopify adjusts displayed prices to include or exclude tax based on the customer's region.
* **Show as included** — tax is already built into the displayed product price.
* **Show as line item** — tax is shown separately and added at checkout.

For most B2B setups, use **Show as line item**. Wholesale buyers usually expect tax to be broken out clearly.

1. Open the B2B market.
2. Go to the market settings for **Taxes and duties**.
3. Choose the tax display option for this market.
4. Save the change.

{% hint style="warning" %}
For most B2B use cases, choose **Show as line item**. It makes tax visible without hiding it inside the product price.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://393112916-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FJ8asLD4FVCFagK40xEr4%2Fuploads%2FRzSgu7XD1FqIiBBD0nob%2FScreenshot%202026-04-21%20at%205.27.47%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=7e041ad6-67b3-4abd-9e8a-0baa16c46242" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Step 4: Create the catalog

#### Create the catalog that will carry the B2B pricing

1. In Shopify, go to **Settings → Catalogs**.
2. Click **Create catalog**.
3. Enter a clear name such as **Roadmap AU B2B**.
4. If you expect multiple pricing tiers, add a suffix such as **— Tier 1**.
5. Attach the market you created in Step 1.
6. Save the catalog.

When the catalog is attached to the market, the company locations on that market can use the catalog pricing.

{% hint style="info" %}
Keep catalog names region-first and purpose-clear. `Roadmap AU B2B — Tier 1` is easier to sort than `Wholesale prices`.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://393112916-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FJ8asLD4FVCFagK40xEr4%2Fuploads%2FkNcaTv18zlkeKQTSBfv3%2FScreenshot%202026-04-21%20at%207.18.39%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=58da76c8-150d-490c-89f0-07fb5a04486e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Step 5: Choose which products are in the catalog

#### Decide whether companies should see all products or only a subset

1. Open the catalog.
2. Go to the **Products** or product selection area.
3. Choose whether the catalog includes **all products** or a **specific subset**.
4. Save the selection.

Products outside the catalog are not visible or purchasable for companies using that catalog.

This step matters as much as pricing. A correct discount on the wrong product set still creates the wrong buying experience.

### Step 6: Set catalog pricing

#### Add the pricing logic for the products in the catalog

Shopify supports several pricing approaches in a B2B catalog:

* percentage discounts off retail
* fixed prices
* price list imports

Set the pricing model that matches the account or tier you are building, then save the catalog.

This guide stays focused on market and catalog setup. For pricing rules in detail, use [Catalog pricing rules for Shopify B2B](/trade-and-b2b/getting-started/catalog-pricing-rules-for-shopify-b2b.md).

### Step 7: Set quantity rules (optional but common for B2B)

#### Add ordering limits where wholesale terms require them

Catalogs can also control quantity rules at the product or variant level.

Common examples include:

* minimum order quantities
* maximum quantities
* case-pack increments

Use these when wholesale buyers must order in packs, meet carton minimums, or stay within agreed limits.

For the full setup flow, use [Set quantity rules in Shopify B2B catalogs](/trade-and-b2b/getting-started/set-quantity-rules-in-shopify-b2b-catalogs.md).

### Step 8: Understand catalog priority (if using more than one catalog)

#### Make sure the intended catalog wins

A company can only use one catalog at a time.

If more than one catalog could apply, Shopify uses the priority order from the catalogs list.

1. Go to **Settings → Catalogs**.
2. Review the catalog order.
3. Reorder catalogs if a different catalog should take priority.
4. Retest with the affected company account.

If the wrong pricing appears, check priority before you rebuild the market or pricing rules.

### Step 9: Verify it's working

#### Test with a real B2B account linked to the correct company location

1. Log in to the storefront as a test B2B customer.
2. Confirm that customer is linked to a **company location** attached to the B2B market.
3. Open a product that should use catalog pricing.
4. Confirm the B2B price appears.
5. Add the product to cart and continue to checkout if needed.

B2B pricing only appears when the customer is logged in and linked to a company location.

{% hint style="success" %}
If the customer is logged in, linked to the right company location, and the market and catalog are active, the storefront should show the catalog price instead of the retail price.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://393112916-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FJ8asLD4FVCFagK40xEr4%2Fuploads%2F2KPhk8BmabLoSjM5IEKV%2FScreenshot%202026-04-22%20at%208.55.08%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=97de58b2-1957-41fc-a9b6-6e550f4e39ac" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Troubleshooting: customer can't see catalog pricing

#### Check these causes in order

{% hint style="warning" %}
Start with the shipping address. Missing location attribution is the most common cause.
{% endhint %}

1. **The customer's account has no shipping address.**\
   Shopify cannot attribute the customer to the right company location without it. Add the shipping address to the customer profile and test again.
2. **The customer is not logged in, or is logged in with a personal account.**\
   B2B pricing only appears for logged-in customer accounts linked to a company location.
3. **The customer's company location is not attached to this market.**\
   Open the market and confirm the correct company location is selected under **Market conditions**.
4. **The catalog is not attached to the market, or the product is not included in the catalog.**\
   Confirm both the market attachment and the product selection.
5. **The market is inactive or still in draft.**\
   Activate the market before testing storefront pricing.
6. **A higher-priority catalog is overriding this one.**\
   Review the order in **Settings → Catalogs** and move the intended catalog higher if needed.

#### If you need a faster diagnosis

Use this quick isolation test:

1. Log in as a customer.
2. Confirm that the customer is associated with the expected company and location.
3. Confirm the location is attached to the B2B market.
4. Confirm the catalog is attached to that market.
5. Confirm the product exists inside that catalog.

If all five checks pass, pricing should be visible.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.roadmap.so/trade-and-b2b/getting-started/set-up-a-shopify-b2b-market-and-catalog.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
