# Gift with Purchase

Understand how GWPs work, how to set them up, and where to troubleshoot common issues.

Use Gift with Purchase when you want a free item added automatically after a shopper qualifies.

The success signal is the **gift line item in cart**. It is not always a visible price discount.

### Important behavior to understand

A standard Roadmap GWP adds the gift automatically.

The customer does not choose the gift inside the GWP flow.

If you select multiple variants in **Free Gifts**, all selected variants are gifted when the offer qualifies.

Roadmap does not treat that list as `pick one of these gifts`.

If the shopper should choose one gift from several options, do not use a standard GWP for that.

Use a choice-based setup instead.

### How a GWP works

Every GWP has four parts:

* **Conditions** decide what must happen first.
* **Customer Eligibility** decides who can qualify.
* **Free Gifts** decides what gets added.
* **Active Dates** decides when it runs.

### Common condition types

Use **Minimum Spend** when the gift should unlock after a subtotal threshold.

Use **Buy X Get Y** when the gift depends on a product, variant, or quantity.

Use **Buy A+B+C Get Y** when shoppers must add a specific mix of items.

### Common eligibility options

Use **All customers** for broad campaigns.

Use **Logged in only customers**, **Customers tagged with**, or **Members** when the gift should be limited to a segment.

### Free gift settings that matter most

Choose the gift with **Search variants** or **Browse**.

If you choose more than one variant in **Free Gifts**, the offer adds all of them.

It does not present those variants as customer choice.

Set **Maximum number of uses per order** to control repeat gifting in one cart.

Use **Note** if you want customer-facing gift messaging in cart.

### Create a GWP

Start from the main discounts dashboard.

Choose **Gift with Purchase** as the method.

Add the **Name**, **Conditions**, **Customer Eligibility**, and **Free Gifts**.

Choose **Status**, add **Active Dates**, then save.

Build a cart that clearly qualifies and confirm the gift line item appears.
