Fixed vs variant bundles

Choose the right bundle type based on shopper choice, pricing, and fulfilment needs.

Use Fixed Bundles when you want one exact set.

Use Variant Bundles when shoppers should choose options before adding to cart.

Both bundle types fulfil as the underlying SKUs in Shopify. You keep normal picking, packing, and inventory workflows.

Choose the right bundle fast

Choose Fixed Bundles if you want:

  • one exact set of products every time

  • the fastest add-to-cart flow

  • full control over what ships together

Choose Variant Bundles if you want:

  • shoppers to choose size, colour, scent, or flavour

  • mix-and-match bundles

  • one offer that works across many product options

How each bundle type works

Fixed Bundles

A fixed bundle contains pre-selected items. The shopper buys the set exactly as configured.

Example: shampoo + conditioner in one scent.

Variant Bundles

A variant bundle uses selectors or slots. You define each slot. The shopper chooses the product or variant for each one.

Example: choose any 3 t-shirts, then pick size and colour for each item.

What stays the same after purchase

No matter which type you choose:

  • Cart and checkout: bundle items stay grouped together.

  • Shopify orders: the order contains the component products and SKUs.

  • Fulfilment: your team picks the real items, not a new bundle SKU.

  • Inventory: stock deducts from the component products.

Best fit by use case

Use Fixed Bundles for:

  • starter kits

  • routines

  • curated gift sets

  • "buy these together" offers

Use Variant Bundles for:

  • pick-your-flavour packs

  • build-your-own sets

  • multi-buy offers with many variant choices

  • bundles where products vary in price
